Tonight on The Zen Arcade: New stuff from Spoon, Owen Pallett, RJD2, Vampire Weekend, and more! Also, I'll be offering up some of my favorite albums of the 00's.
Tonight on The Zen Arcade: I'll go back through the year's setlists and re-play new tracks from 2009! Tune in and listen to what you might have missed!
This is the first of three Very Special Episodes of The Zen Arcade. Next time (12/8) is the Catch-Up Show--three hours of new tracks from 2009 that I haven't gotten around to playing yet. And it's all leading up to 12/22, the Year-End Spectacular!
7-10 PM, 88.7 WMMT-FM, http://www.wmmtfm.org. Don't miss it!
Coming up on the next Zen Arcade (9/29/09): I'll preview next week's show by the Decemberists at the Singletary Center. Also new stuff from the Avett Brothers, Girls, 7 Worlds Collide, and more! Don't miss it!
Don't miss it! And thanks to everybody who donated to the pledge drive! If you haven't yet, there's still time: just visit http://www.wmmtfm.org and make your pledge today!
Don't miss the next Zen Arcade, and the triumphant return of Three Songs! On this segment, I ask a musician, writer, or other person of interest to give me three songs to play, and he or she calls in to chat about them on the air.
My guest next week will be Franz Nicolay!
As the keyboard player for The Hold Steady, Nicolay has proved the piano's rightful place in rock and roll like nobody else since Professor Roy Bittan. He also shows his range with the punk cabaret of World/Inferno Friendship Society, the deranged klezmer of Guignol, and a little of everything on his new solo album, Major General.
Here's Franz doing a solo take (with banjo!) on a great Drive-By Truckers tune. Sorry for the lousy sound quality, but this was too good not to post.
Tonight on The Zen Arcade, I'll be featuring a ton of new music, including Neko Case, Abe Vigoda, Morrissey, Lily Allen, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, and More More More! Don't miss it!
